The situation:

South Coast Nursing Homes runs nine Good-rated sites with over 700 staff. It is a group with ambitions to lead in the sector and provide the best possible care. The leadership team had defined a set of values but the everyday culture wasn’t following as hoped. Divisions persisted and issues were prone to unnecessary escalation. Everyone needed to understand how to come together and support one another. 

What we did:

Working with the leadership team, our diagnostic process identified the pressures and frictions. This helped us see where roles and relationships needed strengthening – from nursing teams to housekeeping, chefs to grounds maintenance. We co-designed a nine-month programme focused on practical tools to strengthen trust and communication. Using a train-the-trainer model managers championed the programme and role-modelled behaviours. Together staff created meaningful team charters and action plans, supported by workshops and coaching sessions.

The results: 

It was a transformation. The change in warmth, energy and connection across the care group was unmistakable – noticed by visitors and prospective employees. Positive behaviours became part of the care home group’s everyday rhythm with staff reporting greater camaraderie and collaboration, and the ability to address tensions early.  Managers became more confident in navigating difficult conversations and people started taking greater accountability for their work.
