The situation:
Care Quality Commission was preparing to launch the Successful Manager Pathway, their flagship training programme, reaching around 1,000 managers across the organisation. While the programme had strong foundations, the team recognised that some of the learning materials needed updating to better reflect the realities manager face in today’s workplace.
With pressure to launch the programme quickly, they wanted a trusted partner who could not only deliver it with credibility, but also refine and strengthen the content as it was rolled out.
What we did:
We worked closely with the senior team to understand the context, leadership priorities and the day-to-day challenges facing managers.
Building on the existing programme, we refreshed the training modules to make them more practical, relevant and grounded in current evidence. We focused on helping managers develop the communication skills and flexibility to lead increasingly diverse teams, including techniques for handling challenging conversations, giving feedback and reflecting on leadership style.
Our experienced facilitators adapted each session to the needs of the group, creating an open, engaging learning where managers could share experiences, challenge their thinking and build the confidence to put learning into practice.
The results:
Managers consistently reported that the sessions were highly valuable and felt immediately relevant to their roles. They gained practical approaches they could use in day-to-day management conversations and team situations.
The quality of facilitation was repeatedly highlighted in feedback. Participants praised facilitators’ warmth and ability to respond in the moment, ensuring everyone was heard and supported. Senior leaders commented that the programme strengthened leadership capability for managers, helping them to drive change, inspire their teams and improve performance across the organisation.
